What is Hemp?
Hemp is a type of cannabis plant that is harvested commercially for its seeds and stalks, which are used to produce a number of products:
- Wellness products

For cannabis to be considered hemp, it must contain no more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) per dry weight. THC is the active compound in marijuana that causes its euphoric effect. Because hemp contains such low levels of THC, CBD hemp oil is non-intoxicating.
Unlike marijuana, hemp is naturally higher in cannabidiol (CBD), one of over 100 cannabinoids that have so far been identified in the cannabis plant. CBD is completely non-psychoactive and therefore won’t cause a high, making it safe for use by anyone, regardless of age.
Choosing the Right Hemp
Medical Marijuana, Inc. tested over 3000 cultivars (varieties) of hemp before settling on the one that would thrive on the Northern European farms on which we grow our crops and produce the optimal ratio of CBD for use in our hemp oil products.

Unlike domestic hemp growers, who only have a few years of experience growing hemp seeds bred to thrive in the climates and soils of other countries, cultivators in Europe have been growing hemp for generations, and countries in the EU are renowned producers of hemp for the world. Countries like the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, and France rank among some of the largest hemp producers in the world. Our hemp is grown on a farm in the Netherlands with generations of experience growing the best hemp.
CBD Oil Extracted Using Safe CO2
Botanical extract oils can be sourced from different plants using a number of extraction methods. Typically, a solvent is passed through the plant material, pulling the compound rich oil from the plant. When we discuss the supercritical CO2 process, we are referring to carbon dioxide that is in a fluid state because it is held at its critical temperature and critical pressure.
Supercritical CO2 extraction is an important development in commercial extraction due to its low toxicity and minimal environmental impact. Because the FDA considers CO2 extraction to be GRAS or “generally regarded as safe” for commercial extraction, this method is popular in the food industry. The stability of supercritical CO2 also allows most compounds to be extracted with little damage. In the coffee industry, supercritical CO2 is already widely accepted as safer than traditional solvents to extract the caffeine from coffee beans to yield decaffeinated coffee.
Because it is non-toxic and non-flammable, supercritical CO2 is preferable over chemical solvents like butane, hexane, and acetone, which can linger in the extracted oil if not purged correctly, rendering the oil toxic. It has also been noted that botanical essential oils extracted using supercritical CO2 are truer to the scent of the original plants than in other forms of extraction, meaning more of the plant’s chemical structure is retained in the oil with the use of CO2 extraction.
Although it can be costly and requires skill and experience to do correctly, extraction using supercritical CO2 is a safer and more reliable method for obtaining pure hemp oil. Triple Lab Tested®
Medical Marijuana, Inc. takes our passion for quality a step further than other hemp oil companies by putting our products through a Triple Lab Tested® process that checks our oil from start to finish for contaminants like mold, mildew, fungus, yeast, E.coli, Salmonella, Mycotoxins, and heavy metals.
Our safety tested process also helps maintain consistency in the potency (cannabinoid concentration) of our products. Our labs test for level of CBD, CBDa, THC, and over a half dozen other cannabinoids. This consistency means you are getting the right levels of CBD every serving, every time.
We thoroughly test our hemp and its derived hemp oil to ensure the optimal safety and consistency of our products. Our hemp is tested twice before we even begin to manufacture our products, once after harvest and again after we import it into the U.S. Even though all steps are taken to ensure our products are pure and contain no contaminants, we test our products a third time after manufacturing before we allow them to leave our warehouse for your front door.

Once our hemp oil is received into the U.S. and certified to be safe, it is sent to our manufacturers in San Diego to be formulated into our complete line of CBD hemp oil products, like tinctures, liquids, salves, capsules, and beauty products.

Our San Diego manufacturers are registered with the State of California Department of Public Health, Food and Drug and must adhere to the strict regulations the department puts forth.

They also exceed current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) listed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including hygienic work spaces, controlled environmental conditions, and comprehensive training.
