Portfolio companies like Kannaway, HempMeds®, and Kannalife™ Sciences recently participated in a yearly New York cannabis event to promote CBD oil and our line of CBD products.
Held yearly in New York City, the Cannabis World Congress & Business Expo (CWCBE) brings together cannabis businesses, advocates, patients, and the general public for a three day event. This year, the 5th annual CWCBE returned to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from May 31st to June 2nd for New York’s largest cannabis event.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. subsidiary HempMeds® hosted a booth on the expo floor where attendees could learn more about CBD from the company’s team of CBD experts, try the company’s CBD products for themselves, and even purchase products from popular brands like Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ and Dixie Botanicals® at a discount.
Representatives from the Medical Marijuana, Inc. family of companies gave interviews at the booth as well to local and national media outlets, including Medical Marijuana, Inc. CEO Dr. Stuart Titus, Kannalife™ CEO Dean Petkanas, Kannaway spokesperson Christian Okoye, and HempMeds® spokesperson Liz Carmouche. The Medical Marijuana, Inc. family was also well represented in the event’s educational panels and talks.
Dr. Titus spoke on medical cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD) research on May 31. His talk, titled “Cannabis as Medicine”, covered the science behind cannabinoids and their therapeutic effects, including recent research efforts into cannabis for a range of medical conditions.
Dr. Titus also spoke on a panel titled “Investing in Publicly Traded Cannabis Companies” on June 1 at 2:00 p.m. with Dean Petkanas, CEO of Kannalife™ Sciences, a Medical Marijuana, Inc. portfolio company focusing on the creation of novel new pharmaceutical products for the treatment of neurological conditions.
Professional athletes and spokespersons for our portfolio companies, Liz Carmouche and Christian Okoye, spoke on the “Athlete Patient Panel” on June 2. The pair of athletes shared their personal experience using CBD products each day and promoted the potential for CBD to be added to the training and recovery routines of athletes.
HempMeds® spokesperson and UFC fighter Liz Carmouche is the UFC’s first openly-gay fighter, as well as the UFC’s most decorated ex-military fighter. Carmouche is a vocal advocate of how CBD helps her train harder and recover faster. She is currently training for her upcoming UFC fight against Jennifer Maia on July 14, in UFC Fight Night 133.
Nicknamed the “Nigerian Nightmare” for his punishing running style as a fullback, Okoye retired after six seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs all-time rushing leader. Okoye recently came out in support of CBD as an alternative after being introduced to CBD products by former teammate Nick Lowery and is now partnered with Medical Marijuana, Inc. portfolio company Kannaway as a spokesperson to raise awareness for the advantages of CBD for current and former athletes like his fellow NFL players.
Coverage of Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s participation at the CWCBE aired on New York’s PIX 11 news. The segment focused on Okoye’s efforts to promote CBD among athletes and the general public. PIX 11’s coverage also included the work being done by Kannalife™ Sciences to create treatments for common issues faced by athletes, especially football players.
“What we’re looking for is neuroprotection in the classic sense of mild-traumatic brain injury before, during and after to see if we can develop something as a medicine that can be used in the mild-traumatic brain injury and/or CTE,” Petkanas told PIX 11.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. and our subsidiary HempMeds® will next participate in Natural Products EXPO East, scheduled from September 13th–15th in Baltimore, Maryland. Also known simply as EXPO East, this event centers around the healthy lifestyle industry by connecting retailers, wholesalers, ingredient providers, and formulators for business to business networking and presents an excellent opportunity for HempMeds® to promote their line of bulk, wholesale, and white label CBD oil offerings.
