Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s Subsidiary HempMeds® Sponsors Hope4Harper’s Fifth Annual “Run4Hope” Fundraiser in Texas for CDKL5 Research

Hope4Harper Founder and RSHO™ Parent Advocate Penny Howard Organizes Fundraiser to Further Science and Medical Research For Neurological Disorders; Daughter Becomes First-Ever CDKL5 Brain and Tissue Donation in World History

San Diego, CA – Aug. 12, 2016Medical Marijuana, Inc. (OTC: MJNA) announced today that its portfolio company HempMeds® is a top sponsor of Hope4Harper’s Fifth Annual Run4Hope 5K and Kids Fun Run, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Josey Ranch Athletics Complex in Carrollton, Texas. HempMeds® donation of $10,000 will help non-profit organization Hope4Harper continue raising funds for CDKL5 and epilepsy research and further science and medical research into neurological disorders.

“We’re honored to have been part of the Howard family’s journey and applaud Penny Howard’s continued courage to share her daughter Harper’s story, and continue her efforts to raise funds for critical medical research that will help other families around the world,” said Medical Marijuana, Inc. CEO Dr. Stuart Titus. “As we’ve seen time and again in legalization efforts across the nation, families of young children with special needs are helping drive the conversation around cannabis reform by sharing their stories.”

Hope4Harper was started by Penny Howard, a Dallas mom whose daughter Harper Elle Howard was born with a very rare, non-hereditary, life-threatening genetic disorder called CDKL5 epilepsy. The Howard family found out about HempMeds® Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ (RSHO™) after weeks and weeks of research online and Penny Howard later became a spokesperson for HempMeds® of her own volition.

Sadly, Harper Howard passed away on Jan. 8, 2016, due to additional medical complications beyond CDKL5; however, Harper’s bold spirit lives on through the family’s decision to donate her 28-month daily cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil brain and a deep tissue sample to medical research. Harper was the first-ever brain and deep tissue sample donated to CDKL5 research in world history.

Harper Howard’s donation is already having a profound impact on medical research for a wide range of neurological conditions under the guidance of University of California San Diego School of Medicine’s lead stem cell researcher, Dr. Alysson Muotri.

In addition, by posting the progress of her daughter Harper’s journey on Hope4Harper’s Facebook blog, she became the catalyst for the historic decision by Brazil’s government to import Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s RSHO™ – and subsidize payments for RSHO™ under the Brazilian government’s health care system.

On-site registration for the Run4Hope will begin at 7 a.m., the fun run will commence at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K will start at 8:00 a.m. Registration fees range from $25 to $40 per person. Proceeds will benefit much-needed research on rare genetic disorder CDKL5 and to support studies by Frances Jensen, M.D, epileptologist at the University of Pennsylvania, and Alysson Muotri, Ph.D., stem cell neuroscientist at the University of California, San Diego, where Harper’s deep tissue donation currently lives.
