Medical Marijuana, Inc. elects to make most of our CBD oil products with full spectrum CBD, which includes all the cannabinoids, nutrients, and plant material naturally found in hemp.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Full spectrum hemp oil is an unadulterated extract of the hemp plant. In addition to providing cannabidiol (CBD), full spectrum hemp oil, also known as whole plant hemp oil, also contains over 400 active compounds in trace levels or higher that interact with the body. Full spectrum CBD oil is different from CBD isolate, which contains only the CBD compounds and none of hemp’s other plant material.

In addition to being a valuable source of CBD, full spectrum hemp oil also contains a long list of naturally occurring nutrients that promote overall health and wellness by contributing to a complete diet. Full-spectrum CBD made from hemp features a complex mix of essential nutrients, healthy fats, protein, fiber, and trace cannabinoids.

When you take a CBD product made with full spectrum hemp oil, you’ll receive CBD as well as:

  • Vitamins A, C, and E
  • B complex vitamins like riboflavin, thiamine, and niacin
  • Zinc
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Phosphorus
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • All 20 amino acids – including the 9 essential amino acids
  • Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in the ideal 3:1 ratio
  • Fiber
  • Beta carotene
  • Trace amounts of a number of cannabinoids

Besides CBD, full spectrum hemp oil contains around 100 additional cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), to name a few. Whole plant hemp oil also contains trace levels (0.3 percent by dry weight) of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), far less than the amount needed to elicit euphoric effects.

Like CBD, these cannabinoids have a molecular structure that allows them to interact with your body’s major regulatory network – the endocannabinoid system. Many of these cannabinoids have also been shown to naturally encourage health and wellness.

Full spectrum CBD is also made up of terpenes like limonene, myrcene, pinene, humulene, linalool, beta-caryophyllene, and others. Over 100 terpenes have been identified in hemp so far, and these aromatic oils share a common molecular precursor with cannabinoids that allow them to interact with the endocannabinoid system.

As you can see, full-spectrum CBD oil offers much more than CBD itself.

How is Full Spectrum CBD Oil Made?

Full spectrum CBD is made by extracting the CBD-rich concentrate from the hemp plant. A supercritical CO2 process is used to extract the all natural full spectrum CBD oil, which contains CBD and an extensive list of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

Once extracted, our full spectrum CBD oil is rigorously tested for purity and safety through our Triple Lab Testing® process. Three times during manufacturing, our whole plant hemp oil is examined to ensure that it contains a reliable level of cannabinoids and is free of any toxins or other contaminants.

That full spectrum CBD oil concentrate is then packaged into convenient oral applicators, or infused into other CBD products, such as CBD oil capsules and CBD oil tinctures.

Full Spectrum CBD Vs. CBD Isolate: Which is Best?

When selecting the right CBD supplement for you, you’ll want to first decide whether you would benefit more from full spectrum CBD or CBD isolate. So what is the difference between CBD isolate and CBD full spectrum?

Both full spectrum hemp oil and CBD isolate are derived from the same hemp plant. CBD isolate is simply full spectrum CBD oil that has been refined down to a highly concentrated powder containing 99 percent CBD.

CBD isolate undergoes a proprietary filtration process that filters out the plant material, waxes, chlorophyll, nutrients, trace cannabinoids, and more, that’s found in full spectrum CBD oil. Because of this filtration process, CBD isolate offer a higher concentration of CBD than full spectrum CBD oil. CBD isolate is made up of 99% CBD. As a fine white powder, CBD isolate has no flavor or odor like full spectrum hemp oil does.

While many CBD consumers prefer the full spectrum of cannabinoids and nutrients provided to them through full spectrum hemp oil, in some cases they may choose CBD isolate because they prefer a more highly concentrated CBD product or would like to avoid even trace levels of the cannabinoid THC.

Advantages of Full-Spectrum CBD

Now that you understand the difference between full spectrum CBD oil and CBD isolate, you may be wondering-- is full spectrum better?

Whether full-spectrum CBD or CBD isolate is best for you depends on your individual wellness needs and lifestyle. Those who need or prefer to avoid even trace levels of THC often find that products made from CBD isolate work best. CBD isolate allows consumers to enjoy the balancing benefits of CBD while avoiding all other cannabinoids, including THC, altogether.

With that said, in general full spectrum hemp oil offers greater natural health and wellness benefits. A theory referred to as the “entourage effect” describes the way all the compounds found in hemp oil work together as they interact with the body.

The entourage effect theory suggests that the natural health and wellness benefits of hemp CBD oil are enhanced when it contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other natural compounds that are naturally found within the plant. It proposes that when taken all together as a complete wellness product, these compounds work synergistically to more effectively encourage health.

In short, the thought is that full spectrum CBD offers greater natural wellness properties than if you were to take isolated CBD compounds alone. You can see the value of full spectrum CBD oil beyond being a source of CBD.
