What is CBD Oil?
WHAT IS CBD IN SIMPLE TERMS?
With the rapid rise in the popularity of CBD in everything from vape juice to lattes, many people are asking- “what is CBD oil?”. To answer that question, let’s first answer the question- what is CBD? CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound found in hemp plants. CBD’s benefits are numerous, making it a popular product to promote wellness. We’ll explore the effects of CBD oil in more depth below, but in short, it interacts with receptors that keep the body balanced and running normally.
The next question we often receive is, “is CBD legal?” Yes, in fact, hemp-derived products containing CBD are available for purchase online and delivery straight to your door, or at retailers in the United States and over 40 countries around the world. Almost everyone can access CBD products, so what is CBD oil and why is it so popular?
What is Hemp CBD Oil?
Hemp-derived CBD oil is made from high-CBD, low-THC hemp, unlike most medical marijuana products, which are usually made from plants with high concentrations of psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Cannabidiol is just one of over 85 cannabinoids presently identified in the cannabis plant. THC is only present in trace amounts, while CBD dominates the plant’s makeup. This allows users to experience the balancing effects of CBD, without the psychoactive “high” of THC.
Uses and Benefits of Cannabidiol Products
What are the effects of CBD oil?
What is CBD oil" may be your first question, but the real question we have to answer is, "What does CBD oil do?" CBD interacts with the body through the endocannabinoid system (ECS). First discovered in the late 1980's, the endocannabinoid system regulates the body's homeostasis, or general state of balance. Like an acrobat on a highwire, as the environment around us impacts our normal balance, the endocannabinoid system "connects" by mediating our body's reaction to keep us level.
Once absorbed, CBD stimulates the endocannabinoid system by interacting with its cannabinoid receptors. This interaction makes the endocannabinoid system more active so that it can better regulate the body and keep functions in balance and ensure that they run optimally. CBD and its natural balancing benefits promote overall wellness and simply help you feel better.
CBD oil made from hemp is non-intoxicating and will not cause any euphoric effects, but how using CBD oil makes you feel can vary from person to person. Some of our regular CBD consumers have reported an awakening effect after using the product while others have said they experience a heightened sense of calm. Others have shared that they don’t notice any sensations immediately after using CBD oil, but that with regular use the effects of CBD oil are apparent in how they feel each day.
You may notice certain natural effects of CBD oil as you begin to incorporate the product into your daily health routine. The results of a more stimulated and well-operating endocannabinoid system may be evident in feeling better throughout the day, getting more restful sleep at night, and greater functional performance overall.
What is the Endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system is found in all mammals, and is made up of millions of cannabinoid receptor sites (CB1 and CB2 receptors) located throughout the body. The endocannabinoid system is one of the regulatory systems in the human body, but most people do very little to support the health of this system, because cannabinoids have not been part of the average diet. If you would like to know more about the technical aspects of the endocannabinoid system, you can go here.
What are the benefits of CBD oil?
Answering the question 'what is CBD oil' would be incomplete without mentioning the many CBD oil benefits. By positively affecting the endocannabinoid system, CBD promotes overall health and wellness in people young and old. You can even find CBD for pets that is specifically formulated to safely allow your pets to experience the natural benefits of CBD.
Naturally-occurring plant-derived cannabinoids like CBD share a similar molecular structure to the cannabinoids that your own body synthesizes. This allows cannabidiol and other cannabinoids to interact with your body’s systems.
By augmenting the body’s own cannabinoids, CBD and the other trace cannabinoids found in hemp oil are able to stimulate the endocannabinoid system to encourage balance and optimal functioning.
The balancing benefits of CBD oil apply to everyone, no matter whether you’re facing challenging issues or are the peak of good health. People of all ages can benefit from supporting the endocannabinoid system, even competitive athletes looking to naturally facilitate recovery and encourage better performance.
When derived from hemp, CBD oil also contains an array of nutritious material like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, trace cannabinoids, and more. This long list of dietary nutrients, often insufficient in the current diets of most people, support a healthy and complete diet to encourage your body and mind to perform at their best.
A CBD oil routine is beneficial for anyone interested in maintaining health and promoting wellness. The balancing effects of CBD combined with the nutritional content of hemp oil will help ensure your body is given what it needs for peak performance each day.
Properties and Effects of CBD
Is CBD oil psychoactive?
No. CBD is not psychoactive, nor will not cause you to experience any euphoric effects. The hemp used is of a naturally low-THC variety, and there are many differences between THC effects and CBD effects. First and foremost, it is completely non-psychoactive, meaning that unlike THC, supporting your day with CBD oil will not adversely affect you or your wellbeing.
There are thousands of unique varieties of hemp. The cultivars used for CBD oil contain significantly higher concentrations of CBD than others. Using these uniquely potent plants, it is possible to extract cannabis oil that contains significant levels of cannabidiol, as well as essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids.
Is CBD oil illegal? This high-CBD hemp oil is legal at the federal level in the U.S. like any other commercial hemp product and can be sold and delivered in the United States.

What is the difference between CBD and THC?
Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most prominent cannabinoids found in Cannabis, the plant genus that includes both hemp and marijuana. While there are over 100 different cannabinoids so far identified in cannabis by scientists, CBD and THC are by far the most extensively studied and best understood.
One of the key differences between CBD and THC is whether the cannabinoid will cause a euphoric effect, or “high,” when consumed.
THC does, and CBD does not have the “high” effect when consumed. CBD and THC both interact with the body through the endocannabinoid system, a vital signaling system responsible for regulating a wide array of functions.
Both plant-derived cannabinoids like CBD and THC and the body's own endocannabinoids interact with this regulatory network through its cannabinoid receptors, found all throughout the body. A well operating endocannabinoid promotes health and well-being.

Legal Status of CBD Oil and Recommended Serving Sizes
CBD hemp oil is a natural botanical extract of the common hemp plant. That part is straightforward and clear.
The legality of commercial hemp products like hemp CBD oil was recently clarified by the U.S. federal government, making the process for getting CBD oil products to the consumer's doorstep even easier than before.
Is CBD Oil Legal?
Yes, CBD derived from hemp plants is legal in the U.S. Growing, processing, and selling hemp and hemp-derived products for commercial purposes in the United States is permitted. While previously hemp was only legal to grow for hemp pilot programs and research needs, the passage of the 2018 bill reclassified hemp as an agricultural commodity and made it legal to produce all hemp-derived products, including CBD oil.
It is because hemp only recently became legal to grow in the U.S. that many of the finished hemp goods that you see for sale in America, from food products to clothing to building materials, are part of an imported hemp industry that has surpassed $688 million annually. The size of this import industry was one of the major catalysts for hemp legalization in the U.S. As a renewable source of a range of products, hemp provides an exciting new step in American agriculture.
Therefore, the hemp used to create many of the high CBD products available in America is cultivated in various countries around the world, mainly in Europe. Learn more about the legality of CBD.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. has implemented a process called Triple Lab Testing® to verify the quality of the oil.
Will CBD show up on a drug test?
One of the most common questions those new to CBD oil products have is whether CBD will show up on a drug test.
While drug tests for cannabis can screen for different substances, most do not detect the presence of CBD. Nearly all workplace drug tests designed to test for cannabis use look specifically for THC or its main metabolite, THC-COOH. Because there are no more than trace levels of THC found in hemp-derived CBD oil, in most cases hemp CBD will not cause a positive drug test when consumed at suggested servings.
Some studies, however, have shown that in rare cases hemp foods and hemp oil may show up as a positive result when testing urine or blood. A common drug testing method can also sometimes mistake the presence of CBD for THC and produce a false positive.
Anyone who is concerned about having a positive drug test should avoid consuming CBD oil, even when derived from hemp. If you’re in the United States Military, a first responder, or a competitive athlete that is subject to strict testing, we recommend that you not ingest CBD oil before talking with your healthcare, employer, or drug screening company.
For those looking to avoid even trace levels of THC, Medical Marijuana, Inc. offers products made with CBD isolate, a refined 99% pure powdered CBD concentrate crafted from award-winning hemp oil. CBD isolate has had all plant material removed except for CBD, allowing for a product containing no measurable amounts of THC.
What is the proper serving size of CBD oil?
Unlike many other wellness products, with CBD oil there is no such thing as a proper serving of CBD in the traditional sense. The amount of CBD you take each day is up to you and dependent on your particular health and wellness needs. The FDA has yet to establish formal nutritional guidelines for CBD products, so the key is determining the CBD serving size that is best for you.
We do not list any type of Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) or Daily Value (%DV) of CBD oil in order to comply with FDA regulations.
To help you determine the ideal level of CBD oil to use each day, we provide suggested serving sizes on all our CBD product packaging. Hemp CBD oil products come in low, medium, and high CBD concentrations. The products in our online shop provide a wide range of CBD potency, from just over 1 mg of CBD to 225 mg of CBD per suggested serving.
The amount of CBD oil you use in each serving is up to you. As you start a new CBD oil routine, it is suggested that you begin with a low serving and gradually increase your intake as needed. We also recommend that you research reliable sources and consult your doctor or medical specialist to help you dial in on your ideal daily CBD level.
For more information see our guide to CBD oil serving sizes.
Is CBD oil safe?
CBD oil is safe and well tolerated. Because it is non-intoxicating, CBD oil can be safely used by all members of your family. Still, once you have made the decision to give CBD oil a try, it is key that you take some care to ensure that the products you buy are both safe and of the highest quality.
With CBD oil hot in demand, new manufacturers and products have flooded the market looking to taking advantage. The problem is that the FDA is still crafting the rules and regulations that will apply to CBD oil products. At the moment, regulatory oversight and enforcement of the way CBD oil products are made, tested, and packaged are lacking.
With the general safety of CBD oil products in the market today left up to individual manufacturers, it’s important to choose a CBD company that has implemented stringent standards around the way their hemp is cultivated, their extraction methods, and their testing procedures.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. pioneered the growing CBD oil industry and we were the first to create an international hemp CBD oil pipeline and the first to create quality control processes for hemp oil products. Our rigorous quality control processes ensure the safety and reliability of our CBD oil products. Our CBD oil comes from non-GMO hemp grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, is extracted from hemp using supercritical CO2, and is tested three separate times throughout manufacturing to verify its quality and safety.

Production Process of Cannabidiol
How is our hemp turned into CBD oil?
After seasonal harvests of specific cultivars, these high-CBD hemp crops are put through a specialized solvent-free extraction process to yield a hemp oil that is naturally high in cannabidiol. This high CBD oil is different from hemp oil that is used in cooking. This pure hemp extract is then tested for safety, quality, and cannabinoid content before being exported to our processing facilities in the United States.
What is our process of transporting hemp oil?
Importing any cannabis or hemp product into the United States is a complicated and serious task, so we leave nothing to chance before our high-CBD hemp oil makes its journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
After clearing U.S. Customs inspection, we test the hemp oil again when it reaches our facilities. After a 10,000+ mile transcontinental trip, we follow proper safety protocol to double check for degradation, damage, or contamination in our oil.
Finally, the imported bulk CBD hemp oil is combined with other ingredients by our formulators to create our extensive lineup of internationally recognized brands, like Dixie Botanicals®, CanChew®, and Real Scientific Hemp Oil™.
How are our CBD oil products tested for quality?
The finished products are then tested for a final time to once again ensure the safety, quality, and cannabinoid content of our products. This is our standard Triple Lab Testing® process that all our CBD oil products complete.
In the natural product industry, these rigorous testing practices are not required by regulations — but nothing is more important to us than the quality of the products we provide our customers.
